ABOUT ME
My mission is to rescue unloved beads and send them off to be reused for amazing new creations
I'm Katie, the owner of Cherry Vintage Beads and I have been obsessed with beads since I was a little girl. When I was 8, my Mum took me to a jewellery making event at our local library and that sparked my love of all things bead. As a teenager, jewellery making was my favourite hobby and I could often be found at Beadworks in Covent Garden, adding to my bead stash. My poor mum often had to get up early on a Sunday morning and drive my sister and I to car boot sales to sell our hand made jewellery.
As I've got older, I've realised that we need to take steps to protect the environment in every area of our lives. Jewellery making and beading is an area where we can reduce our impact by reuse. There are so many amazing beads already in existence, sitting unused and unloved, but in great condition. There are also many, many beautiful beads strung on unworn, broken or forgotten pieces of jewellery, which could easily be reused. My mission is to find and recirculate as many of these beads which already exist. This helps to reduce the environmental impact of jewellery making as a hobby, by reusing and being inspired by what is already in circulation.
I started Cherry Vintage Beads in 2018 to sell vintage and pre-loved beads and jewellery making supplies. All the products I sell are sourced secondhand (or from my personal stash from the 1990s). This means no new resources have been used to create the beads. I provide beautiful and unusual beads so my customers can unleash their creativity, knowing they are not causing more pollution or waste to the environment through the manufacturer of new products.
